How to be Productive on the Coffee Shop

12 Apr

For many people, coffee and working go together very well. The same also goes with the coffee shop itself. A different and fresh atmosphere would giving you some different and fresh idea as well.  It can be a bit of a challenge working from a coffee shop.

Nowadays almost every coffee shop provides a free Wi-Fi, as well as providing an excellent meeting venue with a wide variety of desserts. Getting down to business undisturbed can be tricky, but these tips can help:

  • Get to know the guy who runs the coffee shop or the duty manager you frequent visiting. Learn his name, make small talk, take an interest in his business, become friends. He usually knows everyone who comes in, and if you’re a freelancer you can get some good — and importantly,
    varied — business introductions.
  • In coffee shops I have a few rules: Try to face a wall and never a busy street, and order a small drink to minimize bathroom breaks.
  • Find a spot near power outlet, so you don’t have to worry whenever you’re running out of battery.
  • Equip yourself with smartphone cable or connector and subscribe to a mobile internet plan, just in case the coffee shop’s Wi-Fi isn’t working.
  • I usually buy a drink after 30-45 minutes after arriving on the coffee shop. Thus giving me time to complete an assignment. I “force” myself by saying that I have to get my task done before the waiters send me out for not ordering yet taking up their space. So it motivates me to work faster and stay focused because I have an obligation to order.
  • If I feel like I need some extra motivation to work hard, I’ll leave my computer charger at home. This forces me to complete my work before my battery runs out.
